weekend doings...
This weekend has flown by all too fast, but was full of little adventures!
Planted these tomatoes with my dad a few weeks back & they are definitely getting bigger!! Can't wait for this summer to make bruschetta, caprese, you name it.....
I got those watermelon seeds in my Easter basket last week & got around to planting them, it sure doesn't look exciting now, but come summer I plan on enjoying water melon everything :-)
Saturday was spent going to a dear friend's bridal shower, where there was good food (such good food), good people & good weather. What more could you want, right!? Followed by a bday BBQ with our bestests' for a belated bday celebration (more cupcakes...strawberry this time).
Sunday the weather was perfection so we headed to Morro Bay for a sunny lunch at one of our fav's Dockside (where we had our rehearsal dinner last June!).
Hope your weekend was full of wonder loves, onto Monday. I'll be spending it with my love Vix over cheese &............sparkling apple cider (sigh) :-)

Easter & a birthday :)

{ Family headed to my b-day din @ Basil! }

{ B-day flowers }

{ Hoppy birthday to me! Easter/B-day cupcakes }

{ Easter basket loot, squash & seeds!! }

{ A hat for baby }
My birthday fell on Easter this year. I don't think I quite care for this occurrence, no friends available to celebrate & everything was closed. So we spent Saturday having din at Basil with my parents and some friends!! Sunday I was hoping for lots of time to soak in the sun outdoors (and plant my new seeds), but it was over cast & windy yesterday and I did none of that :-(
Instead I made crepe's with my momma (stinky triple creme brie with berries...mmm) for breakfast & peeked through the adorable Easter basket she put together for me, the hubs & baby! So sweet that momma of mine :-)
For lunch we headed to the coast and indulged in Taco Temple delightfulness. Home for a nap (boaring I know, but I was in a mild food coma), to be awoken by b-day singing & cupcakes!!
Over all a lovely little Sunday, Easter & Birthday if I do say so myself, today I'll be planting my seeds with my momma while the Mr. goes to his first day of his NEW career!! Woo hoo, baby daddy got a fab job (graduated Cal Poly in December for Construction Management) & we couldn't be more proud, happy, elated, and down right stoked for the whole thing!! Good job baby, I love you :-)

*Happy belated Easter & Earth Day, and enjoy this lovely little Monday!

Sunset...I didn't know I loved you.

{ local alert!! this I-N-S-A-N-E-L-Y beautiful backyard is located in Paso Robles!! Now if only it were mine! }

SUNSET, how was I so blissfully unaware that I might just LOVE you?!Don't hate me....but my parents always got and read Sunset when I was a bit younger (and soo cool, right?! ha, not), so I kinda figured it wasn't really my age range.
Well people.....I have something to admit. Sunset mag is super duper cool. Either I've been missing the bus for the past years....or (gasp) I'm in the "Sunset age range now".
Either way, I don't think I care any more, because I got totally inspired reading this month's issue.
1. That house up-top---GAHH....those colors!??! whaaaa? I'm dying I tell you, to paint a beautiful wood house that exact shade of purple. Dying. Plus for the 50 thousand'th time, I love me a colored door.
2. Bar--Hendrick's Gin, nough' said. In late August/early September (baby's due Aug 28th!!) I'll be sippin' something special to celebrate :-)
3. Insanely cool backyards...I was drooling over #5 down only to realize that it's a local backyard...why does that make me happy!? Haha, I don't know, but I just wish it were my own. The multitude of cacti, the sprawling hills covered in grape vines, and the pool....just a dream.
Okay....I'm done. Subscription to Sunset asap?! Yes, please!

planting party!
Saturday we headed up to Paso, to my parents house for some succulent planting and wine margarita taste testing!
We got the pots and bowls planted (almost)...we need about 10 more succulents! I think they look so cute!! Thank you Kelly from Yes Please blog for letting me know where you got your pots (about a year ago)....thanks to her tip I found myself all those cute little cement pots that are sooo perfect for centerpieces!!!!!
After a long day of planting...and planning, going over (and over) all the little details....we relaxed at the house for some wine margarita taste testing : ) My parents were worried about people getting tanked right off the bat with real tequila margaritas (so much tastier....but I had to give up at some point!)...haha, so i did (give up the tequila fight!) and we (with some much appreciated help from good friends Norma and Jim) came up with a concoction of lime juice, sugar, triple sec and wine--with a splash of sparkling wine to top it off. It is good, it really is, but it's not a margarita....so now the game is figuring out a name for this limey refreshing drink.

sneak peak!
Just a little sneak peak of the succulent planting going down at my parent's house in Paso today!!! It's hot (really hot)...but everything is looking so pretty and coming together!!
Our succulent guy even threw in air plants with out me asking (which I love)...and feel will mix it up a bit given the popularity of succulents this year in weddings!!!!
Ya...more to come in the next few days : )
Happy weekend lovelies!

SLO botanical garden
{ SLO botanical gardens }
{ succulent arrangement }
{ aloe varieties }
{ spider webbed aloe }
{ the almost hubbs and my daddy discussing CA native plants }We headed to Morro Bay for a run today with my dad only to be greeted by 30 mi/hr sandy winds :-( no go. So we re routed to Dairy Creek park/home of SLO botanical gardens for our run! After a bout with food poisoning/maybe 24 hr. flu I was just hoping I could make it. After a little 3 miler, we re hydrated ;-) and headed to the SLO botanical garden where we checked out the succulent crop and other ca native plants! My dad puts together the CA native plant society news letter every month and takes part in all their activities, he even snatched up some flowers un-known to him to investigate later :-) We wandered around a bit, and checked out their gardens, where Wes and I both wished we were home owners so we could full on garden up a storm (ugh...renting kinda sucks as far as personalization goes).
Over all, a lovely Saturday (I'm really just so stoked I'm feeling better!!!!), home with a Drifter in hand and some of Wes' guacamole (the best eva! no joke!).
Happy Weekend.

{my little tangerine}
{pretty little succulent crop}
{my pretty pretty Pepper}I have this Friday off, and it is lovely!!! Got out in the yard with Pepper, and checked up on my little tangerine that is doing quite well, although I do think it needs a larger container, I'm thinking a 1/2 wine barrel! Hope everyone has a beautiful weekend....no more rain until next week it looks like for the Central Coast :) I will be spending time celebrating a best friends bday tonight and a dinner date with the Loughrans tomorrow!!!!!

Polaroid Flower Vase
This is really such a simple yet lovely design concept by Jung Hwa Jin...because you keep a picture for a long time, the idea is that you are keeping nature for a long time...so sweet. I would love to have a little row of these hanging in my cozy little home!!*found via this lady!!!

what lovely lanterns...

I picked these lovely Chinese Lanterns up today down at Open Air...aren't they amazing? You can't quite grasp from the pictures how tall and bright and lovely they really are!!! Also, I was told that you can save the actual little lanterns after the stocks die, they dry into a lovely burnt orange color and retain their shape--perfect for a little glass vase filler : ):: peace and love ::
Danielle's Bruschetta Recipe
I have been meaning to post this one for a while now--my dear friend Danielle introduced this to me a while back when we were doing our weekly 'Project Runway nights'. I have had many forms of Bruschetta, and I like this one very much (so does Wes...that's always a plus).
Ingredients ::
Tomatoes
Onion
Fresh Basil
Garlic
Olive Oil
Vinegar
Lemon Juice
Crumbled Feta Cheese
there's really no secret, you just mix all these together and 'voila!' it's amazingly delicious!!!! We always get a baguette and slice it, apply a trickle of olive oil and get them toasty in the oven, it provides the perfect receptacle for the bruschetta mixture!

(( GASP ))......chickens ????????
ermm.....how do I say this....We have a little grassy spot (dead grass I might add) in the new yard that just might fit this little modern hen house...
I have been wanting cute little chickens that lay blue eggs (specifically blue eggs) since I was little and collecting the adorable eggs of a very dear friend of mine when they got a coop.
I 'just' realized that it might actually work...I can see Wes' eye's rolling right now--here's how the convo. would go ::
K : "so babe...you know that little dying grass spot behind the deck?"
W : "yeah...." awkward expectant pause
K : " you know how I want little chickies who lay blue eggs right?"
W : silence......even more awkward than before
K : "erm...well...how perf. is that??"....."we could totally fit a little coop back there"
W : the expected eye roll occurs...and maybe...just maybe...a stressful sigh*
I'll keep you posted...check out Kristina's amazing coop here and here. It's my inspiration! (pic from Kristina!!)

Garden Beginings!!
{pic :: Armas}Hey loves.....so.....we got the 'bigger' place (the things I'm stoked on are...the w/d and especially the *garden*). When I say garden...I suppose I should clarify...the 'potential' garden. There's a gangly rosemary sprig there for the moment and a very sad rose bush (i really don't care too much for roses...so that will be going bye bye). I want to plant a garden in one area (Wes wants a tomato plant--as do I!!) as well as lettuce...carrots...raddishes etc.
I also love succulents, snake plants....tall grasses etc. I am sharing all this because I would love advice or opinions about what should go in there!!!!! In your own gardens...what has done well? What have you enjoyed the most?I also have a large raised planter that I will be growing all my herbs in (cilantro (duh), chives, basil (another obvi.) thyme, parsley and anything else I can think of!).
Please give me your ideas...I really can't wait to get started on what's in season to start now as far as the garden goes...and get started on the rest of the little yard asap!
Happy Saturday : )
