One Love Organics--treatment foundation

Finally tried this little trick today with my OLO Skin Savior!!! I think I like it, I am going to do it again tomorrow, but my powder (that I had left over from a couple years ago (!!) bc I don't really use powder anymore) it blended together perfectly, gave me a good amount of coverage while still looking natural & made my skin glowy ;-) Yes, glowy.
If I love it again tomorrow, I might have to head out and buy some more mineral powder to use this little mixture more! Obviously the Skin Savior is such a perfect little multi tasking product, it's no surprise that it would make a smooth & creamy foundation too!

weekend wrap up

{ the Shutter Booth @ Nell & Cole's wedding! }
{ finally wearing this dress, & loving every minute of it's tent-like ness }
{ a watermelon & pineapple snow cone....oh, i think so! }
{ my lover/hubby/baby daddy's 30th bday!!!!!!!! }
{ gotta get some sun on that 31 weeks belly }
{ the centerpiece at Nell & Cole's wedding...so shabby chic }
{ the gorgeous couple, I mean, come on! }

It was a BUSY busy weekend.
Saturday I started the morning doing makeup for my beautiful bride-y friend Danielle, her 6 bride's maid's, her adorable little momma & her fiance's (now hubby!! woo) mom. If you're a makeup artist you'll know that's a lot of people for one preggo to handle...but let me tell you something. These girls are the sweetest (funniest) bunch you will come across, Nell has some seriously fabulous friends. I had the best time, if not a soar back. It was well worth it, everyone was so appreciative. I was just stoked to spend time with everyone while they were getting everything together. There's nothing like the morning of a wedding!!! So much excitement & anticipation & love & friendship...blah blah. It was marvelous.
Sunday was my honey's 30th bday. He started the morning with a surprise golf extravaganza, new bag & all with his boys!! Then to a beach bbq with a 5 gallon local Amber ale, shishkabob's, stuffed portobello's and some really good company. I can't believe my babes is 30!!!!!!! We met when he was 20, and when I think back over the years I can't believe we're here......we must be real live adults or something, although we don't feel like it at all. ;-)
I hope your weekend was magic kittens.

summer=hot pink & peach.

{ Stila, Gladiola Convertible Color }

SO...
I am somewhat of a product junkie...and by somewhat, I mean, it's an issue. I L-O-V-E makeup (all products in general...working for Aveda, being a makeup artist for Salon Lux & having a Sephora right upstairs doesn't help in this addiction what-so-ever).
I've decided after seeing HOT pink all over the blogs that I needed my own attempt at it. Et voi la, Nars Schiap. OBSESSED (sorry for the all caps), but I cannot even tell you how many compliments I got on my lipstick today!
Next would be my search for the perfect peachy cheek color! I first got a sample of Bobbi Brown's Cabo Coral with a friend when down in Santa Barbara at Nordstrom's (so sad, no Bobbi Brown around these parts). The Bobbi color is perfection, kicking myself for not just buying it on the spot.....was debating ordering, then yesterday found Gladiola from Stila and found it to be a comparable substitute (same price), no shipping.
So folks, I've got my hot pink & peach for summer....and I am super happy about it! Would definitely recommend both products (although looks like Gladiola is sold out on Stila.com & Sephora site :-(
Happy makeup hunting!

let them eat cake....or at least have a cocktail!

Halloween was a blast. I haven't dressed up for years (so many years).....but when a friend said they were throwing a halloween house party (costumes a must), I decided this was the year.
Marissa already had a Marie Antoinette dress from a previous year (and since I'm absolutely in love with Marie Antoinette--or rather Sophia Copola's version of her) it was perfection.
What was really perfection was my hair and makeup......oh man.
Marissa hasn't even graduated cosmetology school yet and she rocked my hair out in some really amazing ways. It was big and messy and curly and sprayed white with huge butterflies to boot....a red lip and some bright pink cheeks and i'm ready for some Halloween fun.
I can't wait for next year, who knew it could be so much fun! the friends were geisha's, Katy Perry's, noams, white trash bikers and tribal leaders....it was a creative bunch ;-)
Hope you had a very happy Halloween!!! Hello Monday.

Sugar Lips <3

I'm a lip gloss kind of gal, but I am always tempted to try something new when I come across pictures like these!! I have noticed a re emergence of fuchsia lips as of late, and although this could go a bit too 80's (I love you Katy Perry...but oh my) I think with the right hair and correct application of other makeup factors, this look could be really pretty and fresh! I need a pink that's blue based, because I'm fair (to say the least!) and I don't want any shimmer (again...hello 80's!!).........wish me luck....I do hope I can find the confidence to rock these lips!!
*try Sonia Kashuk's lip crayon from target in (what else ) Hot Pink. -or- Aveda's lip color in Candy Apple.

More Fresh Lovin'

My fresh obsession started here with their mascara....and has evolved into a full blown issue. I am diagnosing it an issue after today when I purchased their Rose Face Primer (I have a hard time not buying things that smell like rose) and Fig Apricot Eau De Parfum (how can you really pass up fig..I mean really). But wow...do I smell amazing! Also, my little hand came in the mail yesterday and I think it's so funny--It's also heavy, a bonus (given that I have a weird weight issue about my stuff) preferring things to be heavy as opposed to light (except sunglasses...which I prefer to be light..obviously). Maybe not the most interesting post of my life...but I'm still pretty pumped about my 'Figgy goodness'.

Reading-Learning-Loving

I just got this book the other day, and am kind of in love with it. First of all, I love Bobbi Brown. She's an amazing business woman and entrepreneur...her products are so beautiful and well thought out and I love her way of creating flawless yet natural makeup looks for every person!!
I would highly recommend it if you love makeup and the art of application. It's a fun read and a great tool to have on hand : )
Happy Weekend Everyone!

A little Fresh obsession

After my first full day of wearing Fresh Supernova Mascara, I can honestly say that I'm a fan. I made about 3 people feel my lashes (they weren't strangers, don't worry) because they were so feathery soft! I will say that I don't think it gives quite the dramatic effect like Diorshow Blackout does right off the bat, but all you have to do is apply more layers. This wont make them spidery or clumpy, because no matter how many coats you put on, it never gets crunchy and definitely doesn't flake off during the day (I know this because I re applied to get more dramatic lashes and they are still super soft and feathery). I may be a Fresh Supernova convert (and would like to try the products above) but Dior does have this plum mascara that is sort of calling to me. I would encourage some Fresh love people : )

New Beauty Buys!

Today was beautiful here on the Central Coast, about 70 degrees, a slight breeze and sunny!!! Danielle and I went and saw Bride Wars (which was hilarious, sweet and touching)...I thought it would just be a sweet movie, but it really made me think of the good friends I have and the many people I care about and how grateful I am to have all of them in my life : ) After the movie we decided to head into Sephora for some shopping (obviously). I had a gift card of $40 from my very thoughtful cousins, and thought I should put that to good use!! I always have a list of things I want to try and then once I get in there, I forget or change my mind. I walked away with some Fresh Supernova Mascara and Nars Ashes to Ashes Eyeshadow. I have been using DiorShow and DiorShow Blackout for a couple years now, and was hesitant to switch, but Fresh products always seem so appealing to me, their packaging is sort of whimsical and pretty (I'm a total sucker for cute packaging) and their colors are so beautiful. On the encouragement from Danielle I got the Fresh mascara and am excited to try it. I never wear eye shadow...I always buy it, have the best intentions to wear it and once I put it on, I generally feel to "heavy" like I've got too much on...and I'm really not a fan of too much makeup. But, Ashes to Ashes is described as a soft violet brown with shimmer and I think this is the perfect everyday lid color...wish me luck with actually following through on this one!! Hope everyone had a happy weekend!!!

Charming Bobbi Brown Cosmetics

Bobbi Brown is definitely one of my favorite cosmetics companies. I feel like I'm committing Aveda treason!!! (I still love Aveda tremendously....but I do think they could use some expansion in the make up front). When I was a young teenager I received the "Teenage Beauty" guide to makeup, and I might even say that it is what kept me from wanted to line my eyes with a Sharpie marker (and yes...unfortunately I have witnessed this treachery). I have more of her books now and am in desperate need of more products. Hard thing is we don't have a Bobbi Brown counter in our little town...must travel to Bobbi. Her video tutorials are wonderfully helpful, as are the artists with whom you can chat with online about any questions you might have. She always infuses a carefree, perfectly beautiful and delightfully natural approach to any look she creates and her pigments and shades are some of the most beautiful in the industry (in my opinion)........yeah.....here's to Bobbi love.

:: Candy Lips ::

Can I just say how much I'm loving matte red lips right now!? It always feels a bit intimidating, trying to 'pull off' the red lips....not many attempt it, some naturally asume that it would just never look good on them and don't even try. I happen to love it, and I would do it much more often if it weren't for my honey (who is really not a fan....) bummer for me, but I still do when I really want to anyway (sorry doll). There are many great pics of fab. red lips, but I found myself obsessing over these two covers this year. Reese Witherspoon on the cover of the November VOGUE and Kirsten Dunst on the cover of the October BAZAAR. Both have that milky fair skin, light eyes and retro 50's blond hair. I loved how both lip colors used were matte and a bit darker, as apposed to that orange tone so many have. My 2 suggestions for great matte red lips are Nars Velvet Matte Lip Crayon in Dragon Girl, and Aveda-Nourish-Mint Lipstick in Poppy. I have tried both and love both....I love the consistency of Aveda lip products (obviously), but will say that the Nars lip crayon is a bit more convenient to apply.
Lets all try some candy lips : )
Smooch!!

Aveda Magnetic Compact

Disclaimer :: I will be posting lots of Aveda good(ness)....why? 1. Because there is a lot of it and 2. Because you should definitely be aware of it. You're welcome!!!

You should have seen my face when I saw this compact!! Okay...breathe....you buy it separately ($19), but can customize it's contents to your preferences! It is magnetic inside, all of Aveda's makeup comes separately from a container and is in a tin tray, so that you can put it inside the compact of your choice (which is re-usable) there for saving you $$ in the long run and saving the environment by not wasting materials. This particular one can fit one face powder -or- one blush and two eye shadows -or- 2 blushes -or- 4 eye shadows (the possibilities are endless). Also, see at the top where it looks rounded? This is where you slip in a lipstick or the minty balm for lips (if you're not a lipstick gal) of your choice, then you have a little compact with everything you could possibly need!!!! I KNOW...it's flippin awesome!

Make Your Own Lipstick Palette

I was flipping through last months issue of Domino only to find this lovely article about making your own lipstick palette! If you are a total beauty junkie (you know who you are!) you are going to love love love this! seriously! I am going to include the link of the video showing exactly how to do this yourself, but it is so easy I can't believe I haven't don't this sooner!
First off, you will need a palette to put all your pretty pucker in! Go to http://www.naimies.com/ click on shop beauty supply online at the top and when it gives you the list of options to shop on the left you will see the option to click palettes! There you go! The version that they show is the 28 basin double sided which retails for $60. A little pricey you say? If you think about it not really, they say that by putting all your color in one place (and by taking it out of its original container) you are getting 1/3 more product with your buck! Imagine all that good stuff that's always left at the end of your lipstick container that you have been throwing away till now! Next you will need a microwave (if you are a neat freak--like me) and a small ceramic bowl with a pour spout!
Go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTf2JhRiirs to enjoy the video of Domino Magazine's own beauty editor in her Manhattan apartment whipping up a pretty lipstick palette!

Absolutly Necessary~Benefit Benetint

When asked what beauty product I would cry over if it was discontinued, my answer is Dior Show Mascara in Blackout and Benefit Benetint lip and cheek stain! This is maybe the most amazing thing EVER! I have fair skin and a rosy color already to my skin and for the longest time I thought that I couldn't wear anything too intense on my lips because it would just bring out the pink color in my skin--in a bad way--like "woah my trainer kicked my ass into a tomato red heap". I was proven wrong when I broke down (after hearing all the hype of benetint for years) and bought the 'Pocket Pal' version. The Pocket Pal is very handy since it is the original Benetint but packaged in a dual ended pen with a clear gloss on the other side or spicing things up a bit! I will say one thing, that I wouldn't wear it alone on the lips...it definitely does need a gloss and clear is the best. Plain and simple if you are fair skinned (or anything else really) but this works well on me...you will like Benetint! It is the perfect rose color and as the picture shows does wonders to liven up a dull complexion!
I find that the picture (from Benefit's website) is true to color.
You can purchase same as the prior post about the High Brow Pencil at Sephora or at the Benefit Cosmetic site!

Benefit~Not Just A High Brow!

I'm sorry, but I LOVE BENEFIT. I will admit that I love their packaging (I think it's adorable) and that may 'partially' contribute to why I love them and want basically everything in their line! However...I bought this pencil maybe a year ago--initially because I was watching one of those make over shows where a makeup artist was telling the woman that she should use a light pink pencil under her eyes to minimize any darkness and brighten the eye area. Benefit does have a pencil specifically for the eye area (and to be honest I don't see the difference between this one and that one) but at the time of my purchase I did not see the one for the eyes so I bought this. Thinking--hey...there's a light pink pencil--perfect!! It is perfect, I do use it under my brow but specifically I use it under the eye. I have a weird little phobia of tugging the delicate skin under my eye so instead of drawing it directly under my eye, I scrape a bit of the pencil off the top, warm the cream between my ring fingers and lightly tap the creamy pencil under the eye. Paying more attention to the inside corners on the side of the nose and down the nose, feathering out toward the outside corners of the eye. Don't blend entirely! You want to leave a bit of the pink color lingering to keep the are bright!
To purchase go to
or to the Benefit site
Enjoy!

Benefit-Girl From Ipanema

I just went on the Benefit Cosmetic site to check out what new and deliciously exciting things they have and 'voila' I stumbled across this gorgeous look they created called the "girl from ipanema'. It is a brozed look with a pale glossy lip and copper eyes. To get the step by step directions and product usage go to their website @ http://www.benefitcosmetics.com/gp/node/n/491115011

I have to admit this is a slightly dangerous undertaking because now (only 5 minutes later) I want every single product they used....and thank goodness we have a local Sephora because I'm pretty sure I cannot live with out the California Kissin' lip gloss they use and the 'Birthday Suit' eye shadow! It is almost my birthday...can I use that as an excuse to go overboard shopping for cosmetics? Lets just say yes.....

Here is the 'California Kissin' lip gloss $16. It is supposedly minty and the slight blue tinge that it comes with is said to make your teath look more white! I have a feeling this will be my new favorite everyday gloss (I love blue gloss...ever since Dior and Clinique dis-continued theirs I have been hoping someone else would do this) Happy Shopping!

Bobbi Brown -- Tips and Tricks

First off, I love Bobbi Brown cosmetics...I have not tried all of her products but there are quite a few I have my eye on! One of the many lovely things about Bobbi Brown online is that you can submit any questions regarding makeup looks or tricks etc. and a professional artist will get back to you with a full personalized answer as well as a step by step run through of how to atchieve the look in question. I have done this twice and received wonderful and promp responses! The site is wonderful all together, however my favorite (BEST THING EVER!) part is the video guides that Bobbi does for a new collection or for general applications like foundation, concealer or mascara! These videos are extremely helpful and Bobbi is such a talented artist and visionary that they are very inspiring also! Hope their artists and videos can help you with any questions you might have about makeup!!!

Stila Convertable Color--

Probably my favorite beauty look is a beautiful flushed cheek. With clean healthy skin..you don't need much and Stila Convertable Color gives the most beautiful natural flush with a good variety of colors. At first I tried to swirl my finger in the color (which is like a compacted cream formula) and then to blot and blend it onto my face. However I found that patting my finger against the color then onto my cheek worked better. You do not need a lot of this product to see results!!! I use Poppy which looks a little dark in the compact but creates a lovely "just got out of the cold" kind of effect.
You can buy Stila Convertable Color at Sephora or at their website.
Let me know what you think!!!
